Sandroyd shortlisted for prestigious Independent School Award!

Sandroyd’s excellence has been recognised as one of a few schools that have been shortlisted for the Boarding School of the Year Award at the TES Independent School Awards, 2021. 

Sandroyd is one of only eight boarding schools in the country to have been shortlisted, and, impressively the only stand alone prep school. 

“This is a significant achievement for Sandroyd and is a fitting acknowledgement of the hard work of our boarding staff as well as our amazing maintenance team who have refurbished and reconfigured all dormitories and boarding houses in the past 24 months” says Headmaster Alastair Speers.  “It is a real accolade to be recognised alongside larger boarding schools such as Brighton College, Epsom College, Shrewsbury School and Malvern College.” 

These prestigious national awards, organised by The Times Educational Supplement (TES), showcase and celebrate excellence in independent schools across the whole of the UK and, indeed, the world.  The School merits its place in the final as a result of its combined successes in the classroom (its high academic results and, more importantly, the strong value added both inside and outside the classroom), as well as its ongoing development of boarding and the boarding facilities - notably its commitment to providing a full and varied range of engaging boarding opportunities.  

“It has been wonderful to build on Sandroyd’s excellence, from both an academic perspective and in our boarding offering too,” continues Alastair.  “This shortlisting is a great reflection of the whole Sandroyd community working together to meet our ambitious plans for both the School and our pupils.”

Alastair concludes: “Over the last year I’ve been delighted to see our pupils’ successes both in and outside the classroom. Our pupil numbers and waiting lists have grown this year and our scholarship and Common Entrance results last year were outstanding. However, to be recognised on a national platform is a real honour which both reflects and rewards the hard work and expertise of our close-knit community of teachers and support staff.” 

The School now has to wait until the winner of the award is announced at a ceremony, to be held virtually this year, on 30 April 2021.
