Exciting Developments in The Walled Garden

From September 2021, Sandroyd’s Pre-Prep (The Walled Garden) will be adding to their award winning facilities with the addition of a new building - Garden Cottage. Garden Cottage is adjacent to the existing Walled Garden building.

This development provides the Walled Garden children with their own performing arts hall, which all pre-prep children will use. The increased space will also allow for further breakout teaching rooms, a sleeping room for the nursery and a bespoke nursery space. Over the summer, we will adapt the original formal walled gardens to allow the children even more outside space to play and explore alongside the acres of grounds and woods they currently enjoy.

Polly HolbrookIn addition to announcing our growing facilities, we are delighted that Polly Holbrook will be our new Head of The Walled Garden from September 2021. Polly is currently the Assistant Director of Studies at Sandroyd. In this role, she has worked closely with The Walled Garden team over the past two years and has an excellent understanding of the ethos and values of the Walled Garden.

Polly is an experienced pre-prep teacher. A former Year 2 teacher, she also worked closely with Year 1 and the EYFS (Nursery and Reception.) She recently put the Sandroyd whole school reading scheme in place and currently teaches English in the senior part of the school and English and Maths in Year 5.

Headmaster, Alastair Speers, comments on these two appointments: “Polly Holbrook brings great passion and experience to The Walled Garden to build on the excellent work of Kate Blomfield. Kate leaves The Walled Garden at the end of this academic year to take over the Head of Performing Arts, bringing great skill and ambition to Sandroyd’s drama, dance and music. These two senior appointments signal further inspiring times ahead in both the Prep School and The Walled Garden. It is an exciting time to be working alongside such dedicated, and skilled, colleagues across the whole staffroom”
