International Pupils

International Pupils

We are proud to welcome children from around the world into our vibrant and inclusive school community. Some international pupils will join us for a single academic year, others will spend 4 or 5 years with us progressing on to senior schools within the UK. Families from overseas are drawn to Sandroyd for our nurturing environment, strong academic standards, and dedicated focus on pupil wellbeing, all underpinned by core British values. As such, we limit the number of children of any single nationality, both in a single year group and in the school as a whole, to ensure that they are given maximum immersion. This means that at weekends when the day children go home, the school continues to be predominantly filled with British children.

The admissions process for international children is by means of school reports and handwritten assessment. The Head of Admissions will be able to provide you with more detail on this. Early registration is essential for any international child. With limited places, we are full up to 18 months in advance of admission for some nationalities and we are rarely able to upgrade a waiting list place.

EAL tuition is provided on an individual and small group basis. Courses are differentiated to consider the pupil's individual abilities and their future needs. Tuition concentrates on the core areas of reading, writing, speaking and listening, using a variety of approaches. Language support for other areas of the curriculum is also given.

Many of our international families discover Sandroyd through personal recommendations, and we also work closely with a small number of trusted educational agents, with whom we’ve built strong and valued relationships. This contributes to our ability to understand and recognise each child individually and guarantee personalised support for each family. All agencies will have a contract before any commission is paid and accreditation to BBSN or BSA is accepted, or two appropriate references are required. The standard commission is 10% for the first year's fees, paid termly. Our application process is focused on understanding the needs of families seeking the best education in the UK, and ensuring we support you throughout the journey.

UK Visas and Immigration

Sandroyd School has a licence to sponsor international students on Child Student visas. The school has a sponsor licence to be able to enrol International students into the school and we have strict compliance regulations that we have to comply with in order for us to maintain this licence. There is Compliance Management fee of £540 for this which will be added to your first bill.

Please contact the Admissions Office if you would like to discuss visa sponsorship. Sable is our trusted partner for all child student and UK Immigration applications. The company has been providing immigration services for over 30 years and is regulated by the Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner. We have retained Sable’s services to ensure all UK immigration applications are prepared in compliance with UKVI requirements.

If you are unsure whether your child needs a Child Student visa, we recommend consulting the Check If You Need a UK Visa section of the Home Office website.

Educational Guardians

All pupils whose parents are resident outside of the UK require a UK based Educational Guardian. An Educational Guardian is appointed by parents (or legal guardians) to accept parental responsibility on a temporary basis whilst a child attends an education setting far from home. In its simplest setting it can be performed by a relative or family friend, or an Educational Guardian Organisation (EGO) can be appointed, but it is important that the parents and the Educational Guardian are fully aware of the requirements expected of them by the School. They do need to live within about two hours of the School in order that your child can be collected if they become unwell and need to be with family.

For those families who do not have relatives in the UK, we suggest that you employ the services of a guardianship company in the UK who can arrange travel and home-stay accommodation at times when the School is closed. The School is not able to make these arrangements; however, we can direct you to  AEGIS: The Association of Guardians for International Students.

The Boarding Schools Association (BSA) has recently updated their information and guidance regarding Educational Guardians, a link to which can be  found here
